Common description

Karpathos - an island in the Aegean Sea, belongs to Greece. It is part of the Dodecanese Islands (Southern Sporades).

The northern edge of the Carpathos and the surrounding uninhabited island of Saryl, together with the surrounding waters, is included in the Natura-2000 network of Europe's most important ecological regions. and endemic, that is, locally derived, species of plants and animals protected by Greek law and international conventions.

Karpathos is connected to the neighboring islands and the mainland by ferry services and airlines. The ferry goes to Piraeus (via Crete and Rhodes). Regular daily domestic flights connect the island with Rhodes, Casos, Crete and Athens.

On the island, the main mode of transport is a car. Most of the roads have an asphalt pavement. In summer, small private boats run daily between Pigadia and other settlements. There are city buses and a local taxi (agoraia) with solid rates.
