Halkidiki is a center of beach tourism in Greece. In the north and north-west it borders with the Nome of Thessaloniki, and on the other sides it is washed by the Aegean Sea.

On the territory of this region there are peninsulas: Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. The capital is Poliyiros. Also on the peninsula is the Petralona Cave - a place of discovery of the remains of the oldest man in Europe.
