Saronic Islands

Common description

Saronic Islands - named so because they are located in the Saronic Gulf, washing the southern coast of Attica and the north-eastern coast of the Peloponnese. The largest of the Saronic Islands are Salamis (the Greek fleet won an important victory over the Persian fleet in ancient times at the battle of Salamis), Aegina, Angistri and Poros. The islands of Hydra and Dokos, located south of the Peloponnese, are also included in the archipelago of the Saronic Islands, although they are not in the Saronic, but in the Gulf of Argolis. The island of the archipelago farthest from Athens is Spetses.

There is a regular ferry service between the Saronic Islands and Piraeus, as well as the Peloponnese.
