Common description

Jaipur is a city in India, Rajasthan. Jaipur, called the Pink City because of the unusual pink color of the stone used in the construction, was built in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh.

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, home to a group of military clans (Rajputs) who have controlled this part of India for over 1000 years. The project of young Bengali architect Vidhiadhara Bhattacharya was designed in accordance with the canons of ancient Indian architecture, which also includes the rectangular location of the quarters. The whole of Jaipur, surrounded by a wall that protects the city from enemy troops and wild beasts, is divided into nine rectangular sectors. It was the only rectangular Indian city at that time.
