Gulmarg is located on the slope of the Pir Panjal Range in the western Himalayas, 52 km from the city of Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Located 34.05 ° s. w. 74.38 ° c. d. (G) (O), at an altitude of 2690 meters.
Gulmarg is attractive for visiting in winter as a ski resort with great opportunities for off-piste skiing, and in summer, as a mountain resort for recreation, it has opportunities for training and golf.
It is possible to get to Gulmarg from Srinagar by bus or car within an hour.
In Gulmarg there are about 40 hotels with different conditions and budget. Most hotels are located in the immediate vicinity of the ski lift. The high season begins with the opening of the ski season. The ski season in Gulmarg is from mid-December to March.
Cableway - Gondola produced by the French company Pomagalski with a capacity of up to 600 people per hour. It is a 6-seater cabin, has two sections. The first section, opened in the spring of 1998, from a height of 2700m (Gulmarg station) passes to a height of 3100m (Kongdori station) and is covered with Himalayan spruce forest. The second section, opened in 2005, leaves from a height of 3100 m to a height of 4114 m (Afarvat station). The total cable car length is about 5 kilometers. The new four-chair lift, built in 2011, originates from the middle gondola station (Kongdoori glade) and stretches along the line of the second stage of the gondola to Mary ridge (Mary's Shoulder) to a height of 3,550 meters.
There are also ski trails for beginners. Several tracks are prepared by the snowcat, in the rest of the off-piste skiing is developed.
The skiing area of the Gulmarg ski resort begins from the top line of the Pir Pyanzhal ridge, from a height of about 4000 m, and ends practically in the village of Tanmarg, located at an altitude of 2150 m at its foot. Thus, the vertical height difference of the ski area is slightly less than 2000 meters.
