Manali is an important place in northern mountainous India. It is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Here, those who are unable to endure the hot Indian summer (due to relatively moderate temperatures) find salvation. Manali is truly the "Valley of the Gods", the perfect place for anyone looking for adventure and comfort. Manali is famous for its wide opportunities for skiing, hang gliding, mountaineering and trekking.

Manali is located at the beginning of the Kullu Valley at an altitude of 2050 meters above sea level. The most famous attraction in Manali - Hidimba or Dhungri Temple. Built in 1533, this temple is dedicated to the local goddess Hidimba. The main holiday takes place here in May. The temple is famous for its 4-storey pagoda and beautiful wooden tiles.

Manali is famous for the brilliant gomps of Buddhist monasteries. The most famous is Gadhan Tekchokling Gompa, built in 1969, which houses the largest number of Tibetan refugees from all over the Kullu Valley.

Smaller and more modern Himalayan Ningamapa Gompa is closer to the bazaar. Its main shrine is a colossal statue of Buddha, it is best seen from a small room on the second floor.

The Museum of Traditional Culture, near the Hidimba Temple, is also worth a visit, it houses works of folk art throughout the Kullu Valley.

Also in Manal is the house-museum of the Roerich family. For many years, Nicholas Roerich lived and worked in this house. The exhibition presents paintings, personal belongings, household items of the family.
