Common description

Lombok (indon. Lombok - chili pepper) is an island in the Malay archipelago, in the group of the Lesser Sunda Islands, part of Indonesia. It is washed from the south by the Indian Ocean, from the north by the sea of Bali of the Pacific Ocean. It is separated from the west by the Lombok Strait from Bali Island, from the east by the Alas Strait from Sumbawa Island.
The relief of Lombok is characterized by a very sharp rise in the direction from south to north. In the northeast, most mountainous part, is its highest point - the active volcano Rinjani, the third highest peak in Indonesia. The southern part of the island is mainly a limestone plateau, sometimes hilly (up to 716 m above sea level)
Directly at the western tip of the island, in the Lombok Strait, the Wallace line passes, separating the biogeographic regions of Asia and Australia. Due to the similar border position, the flora and fauna of the islands are transitional.
