Figeyros, the administrative center of the L'Alt Emporda district, is located just an hour from the town of Perpignan, located in France, near Girona and 150 kilometers from the large Spanish city of Barcelona. Due to its convenient geographical position at the intersection of important highways, Figueiros has absorbed the diversity of cultures and traditions inherent in both Italians and French, a cosmopolitan city characterized by openness, hospitality and friendliness from its indigenous people. Due to its advantageous location at the intersection of the most important routes laid from Rosas to Besalu, from the Italian capital Rome to Tarraco, Figeyros has become a kind of gourmet capital, a wide variety of gastronomy is presented here. At present, there are excellent first-class restaurants here, many of which are described in detail in all European gourmet travel guides. And in recent years, cozy night bars have opened in the center of Figueiros, quickly gaining popularity among the guests of the city and the local population.
One of the main attractions of the city is the Dali Museum, which brought Figueiros fame and international fame. For the sake of visiting the most popular and extravagant museum, hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the city. When the work of the artist Salvador Dali was already highly regarded in the world of art, in 1961 he entered into a special agreement with the authorities of Figueiros, and as a result of this, the museum of the artist was opened in the city in 1974. Salvador Dali chose the place for the museum himself, he decided to exhibit a collection of paintings in the building of the old city theater, built in 1850 according to the project of the architect Joseph Rock in the neoclassical style.
