Common description
Costa de la Luz (Spanish: Costa de la Luz, "Coast of Light") is the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in southwestern Andalusia.
The Costa de la Luz is located between the city of Tarifa (Cape Morocco) in the province of Cadiz and the mouth of the river Guadiana (province of Huelva).
The Atlantic coast is popular with tourists, both local and foreign, despite the fact that the water temperature is lower and the wind is stronger than in Spanish Mediterranean resorts. In addition to sea recreation, Doñana National Park, La Rabida Monastery and one of the oldest existing cities in Europe, Cadiz, are popular among visitors.
Historically, the Costa de la Luz was known to the Phoenicians, who founded Cadiz in the XI century BC. In 1492, Columbus set out from the Palos de la Frontera on his famous voyage. In 1805 a famous battle took place near Cape Trafalgar.
