Inverness is a port city in Scotland, the administrative center and the only settlement with the status of Highland City.
Inverness is located in the north-east of Scotland at the mouth of the Ness River, which flows into Marie Firth Bay. Its location is associated with its name - in Gaelic it means the mouth (or confluence) of the Ness River.
